Over the summer after my junior year, 2019, I completed a 7-week, full time, internship at the Buck Institute Research center for Anti-Aging. The Buck Institute researches the aging process and how to combat age-related illnesses. I was awarded this internship as 1 of 17 chosen out of 200 applicants. I worked in the Kapahi Lab where we investigated the role of nutrition and energy metabolism in Alzheimer patients using Drosophila Melanogaster (fruit flies). My role was to track genetically modified flies afflicted with the Human Tau Gene. Using bioinformatics, my partner and I looked at ways to modify the flies' lifespan and health. Below is the poster I presented at a banquet at the end of the 7-week internship.
